Spoils Of War

Having finally (finally!) seen all of the first ep of the third series of Musketeers, some thoughts below.

Why is Athos having to attack the entire Spanish army on his own?

Run away!

Athos is being all captain-y. I love him so much.

Baldy does an epic guilty!face when he's caught drinking by sinister!lurking!man.

"I hate it when he does that." LOL

Why does nobody want to be Athos? Is it the dodgy beard?

This boy looks like the love-child of Tom Burke and Rupert Graves. He's not called Raoul is he?

I like that two of the children are called Luc and Marie, both names I've used for children in my own fics. Clearly the writers are of the same "what sounds French but not too complicated?" school of thought, heh.

Unexpected!Treville! And Constance!

"Not all of him." LMAO

"You tend your beard like another might a rosebush."

Why is the Abbot surprised by this sudden but inevitable betrayal? Aramis has just told him they're murderers. He didn't seem to disbelieve him, just told him they'd be welcome all the same.

The Mother Superior would be shaking her head sadly at this useless Abbot. These monks aren't a patch on her fighting nuns.

LOL Aramis has basically become Maria from the Sound of Music.

"My favourite part of a battle is always its end." To be fair, that's most people's.

Has Aramis spent the last few years frantically distilling in the cellar? (that's not a euphemism)

When they see Aramis with those children I like to imagine they're all thinking "Christ, are they all his?"

"I sometimes wonder which Louis is the child." Fuck me have they finally named the Dolphin? XD

"Sometimes, you don't look like a bastard." LOL go Anne!

Grumpy!Porthos is love. He's so hurt poor lamb. "We learned to live without you." Ouch. Very ouch.

Has Constance just entered Treville into a fight? Has she got money on him?

Naked Red Guard!

Why don't they just blow the powder up in the courtyard? Given that one gunshot took out about four cannon emplacements earlier...or why doesn't Aramis just stop the wagon? They could have saved the gunpowder if they'd stayed in the monastery. Still, it was a very entertaining explosion, so I'll forgive them.

Oh God the way Athos looks at Porthos when he's holding the little girl <3 <3

He's not shaving Baldy's finger into that glass is he? XD Ooh, face stroking.

Where's d'Art- oh yes, knobbing the missus.

"Ah, the war heroes. And...a random monk?"

Why *have* they been stationed back in Paris if the war's still on? This doesn't actually make sense. (Why am I surprised?). So half the regiment's dead, the general's dead, and Athos has decided for no apparent reason to abandon his remaining men and fuck off back to Paris with his boyfriends, where Treville is massivley surprised to see them, but instead of ordering them back to the fighting, keeps them on. Oh well.

I like the way Porthos and Aramis look affronted by Feron and Athos just looks amused. Like "oh God, here we go again." XD

Yay for a baddie who can act though. Here's hoping he's vaguely more nuanced than Rocheshitforbrains.

...ok, I have now finally seen the uncut version and fuck me they cut a lot out. Masses of Louis (pony!) and Treville and Feron. A significant convo with Athos and Aramis. Half the scene with the abbott where it now makes a lot more sense why he was killed. The whole reunion of d'Art and Constance. And everything between the cannon exploding and the credits at the beginning. Gah. Fuck the BBC right up the fundament for making us suffer this way.
